Please STOP the Killing of Dogs in Margarita Island

The evening of September 27, 2011 several animal lovers sent Twitter messages denouncing the killing of stray dogs in Margarita Island, Venezuela. The link below is to government order to kill all stray dogs starting September 26, 27, 28 & 29 which is circulating the Internet.

There is a new law for animal protection in Venezuela, and while I have previously criticized some of its weaknesses it is evident that citizens are in great need of animal welfare education:

Ley para la Protección de la Fauna Doméstica libre y en cautiverio

The immediate attention of international animal protection organizations is urged to please stop the killings of the dogs.

Many wise thinkers including Alexander von Humboldt, Mahatma Gandhi, Dalia Lama, et al have stated that the grade of civilization of a nation can be measured in the way animals are treated.

Venezuelans need the aid from the International Court of Justice, and world leaders, to resolve abuse of power in Venezuela and restore democracy.
