Hugo Chavez Frias’ Criminal Charges

Dear Journalists,

The Washington Post’s Editorial How Chávez tries to hide the truth about his government explains as follows:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/12/AR2010081205675.html

Over the past couple of years, captured documents and other evidence have established beyond any reasonable doubt that Mr. Chávez's regime has provided haven and material support to the FARC movement in neighboring Colombia -- a group that is known for massacres of civilians, hostage taking and drug trafficking, and that has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department and the European Union. That places Mr. Chávez in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and, at least in theory, exposes him to U.S. and international sanctions.

Colombia’s former President Alvaro Uribe, and United Nations former Ambassador Diego Arria have both filed separately criminal charges against Hugo Chavez at the International Criminal Court.

Amnesty International accuses Venezuela's Hugo Chavez of persecuting political opponents

Ambassador Diego Arria said in the article below that government seized his farm just a few days after he spoke at the Oslo Freedom Forum and suggested that Chavez could eventually face justice for crimes in Venezuela:

In addition to the charges mentioned above environmentalists are actively complaining of Chavez’s predatory actions and neglect against the environment.

As fyi Amnesty International USA has an open petition against Chevron for spoiling the Amazon which may include exploitation of the Orinoco river:

Venezuelans need the aid from the International Court of Justice to resolve abuse of power in Venezuela and restore democracy.

Cordially,
