Bad Faith

Dear Journalists,

Interpol is a world crime fighting organization, so is Hugo Chavez going to manipulate this honorable police force to his whims?

Ambassador Adolfo Taylhardat explains in his opinion article El objetivo es Globovisión the ways that Chavez is dismantling freedom of speech this time attacking Globovision.

Please notice the correction that it is Hugo Chavez who is asking Interpol, and not Venezuela.

However, the International Criminal Court has received official complaint against Hugo Chavez for several documented crimes. When is Hugo Chavez’s trial and judgment going to take place? Is Chavez going to hide like other criminals? Perhaps there would be a new TV series for the poor taste actor: Hugo Chavez The Fugitive. As it is known, it is Chavez’s goal to have only one private television station “Venevision.” This private TV station is allegedly friend with Chavez. So, if you are a friend of HC you get privileges such scholarships to complete your higher education, or any education at all. But, if you oppose the infamous leader you get hell, persecution, jail, etc. Isn’t his against the law?

During this sacred time of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Hugo Chavez has been interrupting game broadcasts with his infamous seizing the networks for his messages. He blocked Venezuela from watching several minutes of the Mexico – France game to some pathetic announcement. The worst feeling was that no one knew how long he was going to be on TV; that is, five minutes or five hours? Isn’t this a crime against the wellbeing of citizens? Venezuelans live under constant threat and insecurity similar to a spouse living with a domestic violent husband/wife.

The following facts of a domestic violence abuser similar to what Hugo Chavez is doing against Venezuelan citizens were taken from the U.S. Department of Justice's Violence Against Women's Office:

Emotional Abuse: Undermining an individual's sense of self-worth and/or self-esteem. This may include, but is not limited to constant criticism, diminishing one's abilities, name-calling, or damaging one's relationship with his or her children.

Economic Abuse: Making or attempting to make an individual financially dependent by maintaining total control over financial resources, withholding one's access to money, or forbidding one's attendance at school or employment.

Psychological Abuse: Causing fear by intimidation; threatening physical harm to self, partner, children, or partner's family or friends; destruction of pets and property; and forcing isolation from family, friends, or school and/or work.

Chavez seized the networks again during the scheduled showing of his BBC interview:

Don't miss this interview. Sheer cynicism and hypocrisy.

Venezuelans expect the aid from the International Court of Justice to resolve abuse of power in Venezuela and restore democracy.

Cordially,
