Venezuela's Political Disaster - March 23, 2007

Dear Journalists,

Representatives of Venezuelan Opposition delivered on March 21 to the Organization of American States one hundred thousand signatures from Venezuelans concerned and outraged about Chavez's threat to shut down Radio Caracas Television network. I have added on my blog details of the letter and signatures presented to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

Please know that Chavez seems to be in open violation of human rights, and acting on an abuser's whim is going ahead to shut down RCTV just because he says so. This is with complete disregard of the public opinion. There are rumors that the infamous dictator may be planning to shut down other media centers.

"Quotable
Ambassador Roger Noriega, former US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, "voiced much concern about this incredible case denounced by us on the attempt at terminating the broadcasting license of TV channel RCTV, particularly in a country whose political nature over the past few decades has been democracy, respect for values and freedoms, and defense of human rights."Milos Alcalay, a speaker of the Comando Nacional de la Resistencia (National Resistance Command)"

Please watch video of RCTV's President & C.E.O. Marcel Granier in Washington, DC:

All the cooperation of the international press to stop Chavez's abuse to shut down RCTV and Venezuelans freedom of speech will be greatly appreciated.

Cordially,

Maru Angarita
