Collegiate Times article on Hugo Chávez by Adolfo R. Taylhardat

I refer to the article entittled "The U.S. needs to find out just who Hugo Chavez is" published in the Collegiate Times:

(
http://www.collegiatetimes.com/news/2/ARTICLE/6532/2006-02-21.html)

Whoever wrote the article on Hugo Chavez either has no idea of what is happening in Venezuela or simply is biased. It’s a well known fact that Chavez spends enormous sums of money to have articles published in foreign media to present a false picture of the real situation of my country.

To begin, there is a historical lie when the author of the article says that Chavez nationalized the oil industry. Venezuelan oil industry was nationalized in the 70's by President Carlos Andrés Pérez. What Chavez has being doing is precisely the opposite. He is de-nationalizing it by entering into arrangements with foreign companies which are harmful to the national interest.

The whole of the article depicts and absolutely false picture of the political, social and economic situation. Just to give your readers an idea of the kind of President Chavez is, only last Sunday he threatened to make legal changes so that he can remain in office indefinitely. Before he came to power the presidential term was five years and any president could not present himself for reelection for the following two terms. That is a president could not be reelected during ten years after the end of his mandate. Chavez changed that. He extended the term to 6 years with the possibility of reelection for one additional term. Now he pretends to govern until the year 2030. This he has proclaimed publicly. We have presidential elections next December and Chavez has illegally launched an untimely presidential campaign (the law prohibits any campaigning until 4 months before the date of the elections) and he is using all the public resources to support his candidature. He has at his disposal 2.6 billion Bolivars (mor2 than 1 million dollars to be extracted from the national treasure) for his campaign, he has instructed all the official of his government (ministers, governors, mayors, members of the parliament, magistrates of the Supreme Court, etc. etc, to campaign in his support. As in the past he will blackmail and threaten public officers to have them voting for him. He is also using all the government controlled media (radio, tv, press) as instruments of his campaign.

I ask the author of the article on Chavez, I ask you, Mr. Administrator of the Collegiate Times, I ask your readers: would the American people accept that? Would they accept that a presidential candidate behaves as Chavez is behaving in order to secure his electoral victory?

Chavez claims that he is the follower of the teachings and deeds of Simon Bolivar. Bolivar always opposed and rejected continuity of rulers. Chavez is doing the opposite.

When the Venezuelan electorate refused to participate in the legislative elections last December (I myself was a candidate for reelection as member of the Latin American Parliament and withdrew my candidature) we did so because the people do not trust the electoral system imposed by Chavez and much less we can trust the electoral authorities. Unless the electoral system is purified and the electoral authorities are changed and replaced with citizens that guaranty impartiality, transparency and cleanliness in the electoral process, it is most probable that again, next December, there will be a large abstention leaving Chavez with his scarce minority so that the world understand that the Venezuelan citizens reject his "bolivarian revolution", a carbon copy of the Cuban regime which he pretends to impose in our country against the will of the people.

Venezuela's Political Disaster - February 24, 2006

Dear Journalists,

Please know that there are several major issues taking place in Venezuela. First of all, please read the issues reported by Alexander Boyd in
www.vcrisis.com in the attached link below:

http://www.vcrisis.com/index.php?content=letters/200602241126

I would like to add the following issues:

-Venezuela bans 2 U.S. airlines, restricts others:

http://english.eluniversal.com/2006/02/24/en_pol_art_24A676713.shtml

This situation has U.S. airlines workers in Venezuela extremely upset considering the fact that Chavez in the year 2002 fired 18,000 PDVSA oil company employees and took control of it as reported in the link below:

You may find other related articles by searching in
www.vcrisis.com:

- There are e-mail reports denouncing active human trafficking in Venezuela including children victims of the December 1999 landslides.

- There are also reports of an alleged clandestine airport in Venezuela which is being used by Iranians to purchase uranium from Venezuela. The airport is said to be located in the upper Orinoco River near Tepuy Druida (mountain of 2,296 meters). The airport is large enough to allow usage of C-130 and G222 aircrafts:

Venezuela's Political Disaster - February 20, 2006

Dear Journalists,

Perhaps you may know by this time, that America Online published today article from Reuters "Chavez Warns Rice, 'Don't Mess With Me, Girl",
Venezuelan Leader Responds to U.S. 'Inoculation' Plan," and posted a discussion and voting poll. Below please find the AOL link to the article:
http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20060219162909990010

The discussion had several pages of messages from Chavez's supporters, from those who oppose him, and from others who just thought that Chavez is from Mexico. The voting poll had at least 180,000 entries.

It is of utmost importance that the general public learns what Chavez is doing in Venezuela, and who are the people who he supports and invites to Venezuela including recognized terrorists, and about. the circus of individuals who support him just because he hates President Bush. How Chavez is using money that belongs to Venezuelans to financially support other nations, specially those who hate the United States and his frequent whims. How he uses his domestic violence abuser attitude and poor taste when addressing women. The severe foreign exchange controls and limitation in freedom of speech he imposes to Venezuelans. His political prisoners. The frequent seizing of the broadcasting media and disinformation interviews, how he turned a developing nation into an under-developed environmental chaos, and about Chavez's deranged behavior which may be aggravated by drinking too much coffee or what ever else he may consume.

Venezuela's Political Disaster - February 19, 2006

Dear Journalists,

I received a press release from Ambassador Adolfo Taylhardat denouncing that Chavez paid US$1M for a Rio de Janeiro Carnival float with a statue of abused Liberator Simon Bolivar.

Laughing for a minute in disbelief, I related the insulting float to the infamous cartoon reaction in the Islamic world, then realized that Chavez's pathetic nouveau rich status and very bad taste could picture Bolivar partying big time with the Samba schools. Please know that there have always been enforceable dress codes to visit plazas and place of rest of Simon Bolivar. Is this Bolivar carnival float a deranged decision, depraved or just another infamous whim of Chavez using the Venezuelans' money? Please keep in mind that Chavez is still enforcing severe foreign exchange controls and limited freedom of speech against Venezuelans.
