Venezuela's Political Disaster - January 25, 2006

Dear Journalists,

As a show of Chavez's authoritarian and abusive regime, Museum founder Sofia Imber's name was removed from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas following her criticisms against Chavez's anti-Semitism as reported in major Venezuelan newspapers on January 21. Attached below please find link to report protesting Chavez's anti-Semitism comments and related article:

Journalist Sofia Imber ran for many years with excellence the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas. I had the pleasure and honor of working for her in 1979 as an Art Researcher. I was amazed of how well Sofia Imber treated her employees, her compassion for animal welfare and humanitarian issues. I was also fascinated to watch her late husband and best friend Carlos Rangel research in the Museum's library. Carlos Rangel was direct cousin to Chavez's Vice President J.V. Rangel. I wonder if the abuse to remove Sofia Imber's name from the Museum that she founded, polished, and lovingly placed it in the international circles with fantastic exhibitions from major museums and guided tours to the world's VIPs would be related to JVR.

Sofia Imber is a senior citizen at this time and I imagine it would be a major insult and humiliation for her to have her name removed from the Museum after all she has done for the Museum and for Venezuela.

In other matters, but reporting another type of abuse from Chavez please find below article written by Ambassador Adolfo Taylhardat commenting in the role of the Church in politics as announced by the Vatican in 2002:
